Artist Statement

My art is an invitation to look deeper into yourself, as the viewer. I find art to be a medium of connection that needs no words to speak volumes, and what I hope you find within my art is a call to observe. Creating a piece of art, whether it be painting or ceramics, is pure meditation. It’s about reaching a state of Zen where color and form is all that I am, and all the piece becomes. There is a sense of intuition that comes with the paint and clay, and I sometimes feel I’m listening more to the medium than I am my own mind.

My creation process has to do heavily with experimentation and investigation. I strive to push the mediums as far as I can. In painting, I usually begin with a more realistic subject and then begin to incorporate layering, using several alternative mediums, and abstract elements.

When it comes to ceramics, I find experimentation in altering the wheel-thrown form and in the glazing process. It’s truly about discovering how to leave a lasting human imprint by cutting away or folding the form in on itself and varying the layering and timing of glazes and underglazes. Each ceramic piece I create is wholly unique and stamped with my makers mark, which replicates a tattoo I have on my own body.

With every piece of art I create, I strive for the viewer to examine themselves and what they find within the paint and clay, to ask why it spoke so loudly.

Bio

Vi Eubanks is a two- and three-dimensional artist who specializes in oil painting and ceramics. They were born in Jerusalem, Arkansas and currently resides in Bentonville, AR. Vi has been making art since 2015 and received their Bachelor of Fine Arts from Arkansas Tech University in May of 2023.

Vi’s love for art began early in life. They were surrounded by supportive teachers and their father encouraging them with his own passion in the field; after high school, they decided to formally follow their dream. It felt like a true calling of the heart.

Since then, they have sought out creating art that cultivates connection through memories, shared human experiences, and introspection. Through their creation they are calling the viewer to observe; observe themselves and the world around them. Their work is a plea to look deeper, a call to examine what in their work spoke to them.
